Salary Range: $210,000.00 To $253,000.00 Annually

We are seeking an accomplished scientific leader to oversee a nationally recognized research initiative focused on advancing chemical safety, regulatory science, and applied scientific strategies. This executive-level position will lead the development and execution of long-range research programs while translating scientific findings into practical solutions that support industry, regulatory, and public policy decision-making. The role is based in Washington, DC, with a hybrid work schedule.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior scientist with experience managing complex research programs, collaborating with global scientific organizations, and influencing science-based policy.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic direction and management of a large scientific research initiative.
• Develop long-term research strategies aligned with organizational priorities and emerging scientific issues.
• Manage research budgets, contracts, consultants, and resource allocation.
• Oversee competitive research proposal and grant processes.
• Establish research priorities and identify opportunities to advance scientific understanding.
• Analyze and apply complex scientific data to support evidence-based regulatory and policy decisions.
• Present research strategies and findings to executive leadership, boards, industry stakeholders, and scientific audiences.
• Build and maintain relationships with domestic and international researchers, government agencies, academic institutions, and industry experts.
• Collaborate with international scientific organizations to align global research initiatives.
• Provide scientific consultation across cross-functional teams and support science advocacy efforts.

Qualifications

Required

• Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Toxicology, Environmental Science, Public Health, or a related scientific discipline.
• 10+ years of experience within the chemical industry, scientific research, regulatory science, government, or related technical fields.
• Demonstrated experience managing scientific research programs, including budgeting, contracts, consultants, and research execution.
• Strong ability to interpret complex scientific studies and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
• Experience collaborating with international research organizations or multinational scientific initiatives.
• Knowledge of scientific assessment programs related to chemical safety and regulatory science.

Preferred

• Background in toxicology, environmental health, risk assessment, or public health.
• Knowledge of U.S. and international regulatory frameworks affecting chemical research.
• Experience communicating technical scientific concepts to executive leadership, policymakers, and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated success influencing scientific strategy or policy development.
